IRON MAN 3 Retrospective Opinion: Lack of War Machine Was Biggest Issue in the Threequel

Many mixed reviews and opinions on Iron Man 3 since it released in theaters back in May. Some fans loved it, others hated it. Those who hated it really hated the Mandarin twist and that's the driving force of their hate. (Cue the Yoda path to the Dark Side quote.)

The Daily SuperHero didn't hate the movie or the Mandarin twist. In fact, really liked the twist because it was a shocking surprise where actor Sir Ben Kingsley pulled it off seamlessly with his scene stealing two-character performance. But this writer wasn't a fan of the lack of War Machine.

Not Iron Patriot, but War Machine. Actor Don Cheadle wasn't even in the Iron Patriot suit much in the threequel so that's not the point. Matter of fact, with the Iron Patriot suit being used for evil in the comic book universe, it actually made sense why the movie version was used by the bad guys more than Rhodey. Cheadle was out of his suit, along was Robert Downey Jr. and his suit, for much of the film doing buddy cop-like things together.

So what about all those promotional images of James Rhodes' War Machine Mark II suit? In the Iron Man 3 Prequel comic book, it tells the story of Tony Stark giving Rhodey the upgraded Mark II War Machine suit but it never made it into the movie. (Well, technically the Iron Patriot suit was the Mark II War Machine suit but how about showing it without the red, white and blue paint job at least once? No offense to 'Murica.)

There are several different action figures available for the War Machine Mark II suit for fans and collectors to buy but no screen time for it. This was the biggest issue for this writer, not the Mandarin twist, not that a new director was at the helm and not the ending of the movie either.

For this issue, how can you not agree with Stark when he continues to say Iron Patriot is not a cool rebranding name? Especially when War Machine was such a bad ass at the end of Iron Man 2 and then his supporting role in the third film was mediocre at best.
