Idris Elba on Being JAMES BOND: The Actor Doesn't Have High Hopes in Landing the Role (For Now)

British actor Idris Elba is quickly gaining popularity in Hollywood. Especially with recent Hollywood big budget movies under his belt including: Thor, Prometheus and Pacific Rim.

While he has a big desire to play a leading superhero role, rumors have surrounded Elba being the first non-traditional James Bond. The actor actually had an interesting response about the role of being Bond, per Digital Spy:

"[James Bond is] not something that I actually hope to come to fruition. It would be lovely if it did, but it's a rumour. It's actually like the will of a nation type-thing. I'm not a champion of myself to be James Bond, but there are so many people who say, 'Hey, you'd be a great one. We'd love to see that'. That's a great feeling for me. That's such a national treasure for us in England, we love James Bond. To be considered as one of those actors who could play him is great."

Even though it sounds like Elba contradicted himself, it seems clear he doesn't have his fingers crossed hoping to land the role. But things can change after a few years and Daniel Craig fulfills his newly renewed 2-picture Bond deal for James Bond 24 and 25.
