Rumor: Marvel could use the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show to introduce new heroes to their movie universe

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

A couple of days ago word got out that Marvel had wrapped shooting its pilot episode of this fall's new television show, S.H.I.E.L.D. The new show will follow the adventures, and probably some misadventures, of Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg).

Whether S.H.I.E.L.D. will be green lit beyond its pilot episode remains to be seen—but with the popularity of Marvel right now, it's gonna happen—but bigger things are rumored to be planned for the TV show.

In an email from one of The Daily Superhero's insiders, Marvel is considering the use of the S.H.I.E.L.D. show as a launching platform for many of their lesser known heroes as a means of both an introduction and possibly as a short origin story for those heroes as well. The source says this would help Marvel gauge how popular a hero might be and could lead to bigger things on the big screen for those heroes too.

One example used was with Luke Cage/Power Man and Iron Fist, also known as the Heroes For Hire. Now this is not factual at all but the source said, in this example, S.H.I.E.L.D. could learn about the Heroes For Hire and seek them out to find out more about their abilities (and of course to chart their powers and maintain watch over them as S.H.I.E.L.D. likes to do). Then if the Heroes For Hire worked out positively on an episode (or two) of the show, Marvel could bring them to the big screen, either in their own film or as supporting characters in future Marvel movies.

This all sounds legit and an interesting way to introduce audiences to new heroes as well. Heck, maybe Daredevil or the Punisher could appear too. Just a suggestion!

In the end, take this info as you will since it's all rumors and speculation until Disney and/or Marvel release any official information about the new S.H.I.E.L.D. show.
