During Marvel Studios' panel at the 2012 San Diego Comic Con, Guardians of the Galaxy was officially announced to be released on August 1, 2014.
Along with this announcement, the team members were named and include: Drax, Groot, Starlord, Gamora, and Rocket Raccoon. Yes ... a raccoon with a gun will be on the big screen. Believe it.

Guardians may not be the most well-known Marvel superhero team around but their presence in the cosmo surely means Thanos will be making some kind of appearance in this new franchise. It only makes sense since The Avengers already set up some Intergalactic battles and the Guardians are just the team to get involved in fighting off the Mad Titan.
