The news and rumors about Marvel Studios' films are coming out like crazy right now, even after the 2012 San Diego Comic Con has ended. Next up is how Falcon is confirmed for the Cap sequel titled, Captain America: The Winter Solider.

Not only is the character of Falcon confirmed but actor Anthony Mackie (8 Mile, The Hurt Locker) is also confirmed to play the winged hero and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Back in April, a rumor surfaced saying Falcon could be Cap's new sidekick in the sequel since Bucky Barnes meet his demise in Captain America: The First Avenger. Speaking of, according to the new title of the sequel the Winter Soldier will most likely be the main villain of both Cap and Falcon in the next movie.

Mackie is Falcon.

So who is Winter Soldier?

He is Cap's old buddy Barnes. Just as pure speculation by us, if you remember how Barnes "died" in the first film, he was last seen flying off a Hydra train and into a frozen canyon. He was most likely frozen/preserved in the ice just like Cap was after he defeated the Red Skull at the end of the first movie.

In the comics, Winter Soldier is a creation by the Soviet government who also replaces Barnes' missing arm with a cybernetic arm and, to the Soviet's advantage, Barnes has amnesia from his accident so he has no memory of who he is or what he really fights for.

Marvel

Sounds like the perfect villain for the new team of Cap and Falcon to fight against, especially Cap since he will surely recognize it is his old friend Barnes and this sequel could focus on the emotional roller coaster Cap goes through having to fight someone who is very close to him.

This should be a very intriguing story as time goes on and more details are made available.
