Transformers 4: Michael Bay Talks About the Next Movie and its Cheaper Budget

After Transformers: Dark of the Moon was released, director Michael Bay said he was finished with the franchise. Then he changed his mind and said his final movie will be the fourth one, which is scheduled to release in summer 2014.

After speaking with Hero Complex, Bay gave a few hints that the next movie will take somewhat of a departure from Earth.

"I think so, yeah, a little," Bay said. :That feels like the way to go, doesn’t it? I want to go a little off but I don’t want to go too sci-fi. I still want to keep it grounded.That’s what works in these movies, that’s what makes it accessible."

Bay then touched on the new film's budget and how it will be less than the previous two movies.

"It’s going to be less, actually,” Bay said. "Our mandate is to cut about $30 million.” For comparison, 2007'sTransformers had a $150M budget, 2009's Revenge Of The Fallen had $200M, and last year's Dark Of The Moon had a slightly lower $195M budget. So expect a budget of $165-170M this time around."

The director also confirmed there will be a brand new cast and the film will indeed take place in the  same universe as the previous three movies but well into the future. Whether the hardcore Transformers fans care or not it doesn't matter, seeing as how the franchise has brought in approximately $2.6 billion worldwide.
