Prometheus Review: This is Not an Alien Prequel and it Challenges Creationism Beliefs

Right off the bat this review will not have literal plot spoilers in it but it will talk about one of the concepts explored in Prometheus, which is a thought provoking film that only gives a quick and direct nod to director Ridley Scott's original Alien movie.

If you are looking for a flat-out Alien prequel you will be disappointed because there are loop holes a plenty in trying to connect this as a prequel and by no means is this film perfect either.

It is a movie that challenges many religious concepts of creation entirely. Surely groups and activists will protest this film since it says that God—or whichever way your religious views say life on Earth was created—did not create life on Earth. However, God could have created life on Earth in the greater concept of thinking too. To keep in the frame of mind of not giving away literal spoilers, we unfortunately cannot go into further details and once you see the movie, you'll understand what this means. Hopefully.

The vision of the film is on a grand scale and there are moments of shock and gruesomeness—especially an emergency operation scene that'll make even the strongest stomach churn a bit—you'd expect from a sci-fi thriller/horror like Prometheus.

Actor Michael Fassbender (X-Men Origins: First Class), who plays the android David, steals the show along with Noomi Rapace ( starred in the original The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), who plays Elizabeth Shaw an archaeologist. Both have their separate and distinct roles in the film while their objectives are highly different. They butt heads several times in this movie while David's true objective is clouded and slightly malevolent until the very end.

The set design is fantastic and it really takes the biggest cue from past Alien films with artist H. R. Giger's influence throughout. But the story is at the center of this all and it truly is only a nod to Alien, as previously stated, though it's concepts open the movie up to bigger things and a sequel could be in the cards down the road if Scott chooses to do one.

A lot of hardcore Alien fans will probably hate this movie because it won't give them what they want since it's not an Alien prequel at all even though it does give somewhat of an brief origin and closure as to who the "space jockey" really is.

As the film has been called prior to it's release, it's in the same universe but not what you'd expect. Whether you see it in the theater or not, you still have to see this movie at least once because the conversations about the concepts in the film will be great water cooler material at work or with friends at the bar.
