If you haven't seen The Avengers, please stop reading this right now and move to another article because you are about to get a big spoiler in the next sentence.

Agent Phil Coulson (played by actor Clark Gregg) is not really dead. You may be thinking how is this possible, but you have to think about how his death was portrayed in The Avengers.

First, Nick Fury never says Agent Coulson has died, he says he has "passed" on the helicarrier's communications link. Fury also says the doctors "called it." No actual word saying dying or death or any of the sort.

Then, there's the whole thing about Fury saying Agent Coulson's Captain America cards were on his person when it was clear—especially when Maria Hill said it—the cards weren't on Agent Coulson when he died. It was obviously a motivational technique by Fury to get the heroes to come together as a team.

Finally, and this is the biggest reason to believe Agent Coulson will be back, is the fact Gregg signed a six-picture deal with Marvel Studios and he has only been in four films so far (Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor and The Avengers).

Without a definitive confirmation from Marvel, about this theory, it's all speculation right now but the fact Gregg has two films left on his deal is reason enough to think he'll be back soon.
