Sherlock Holmes Update: Look For Another Sequel After Second Film Surpasses Box Office Take of Original

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows seemed to struggle in theaters this past holiday season, and its reviews were not as good as its original offering either. But this didn't stop the sequel from raking in more cash than its predecessor, worldwide.

The first film took in $206 million domestically, with an opening weekend of $62 million and finished with a worldwide box office take of $524 million. Not a bad amount of money, indeed, but A Game of Shadows beat that mark.

After opening with a less-than-stellar weekend, of $39 million, the sequel managed to take in $186 million domestically and $529 million worldwide.

Looks like another sequel will be in the works and it has been rumored the trifecta of director Guy Ritchie and actors Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law all initially signed up for a trilogy anyway.

Hopefully the third installment will have more villainy than the second film, which lacked it more so than the first movie in this journalist's eyes.
