Superman is back, baby!!!
DC Studios co-head, producer, writer, and director James Gunn's SUPERMAN movie is finally in theaters with critics and fans all falling in love with this new and fresh take on the superhero. With positive critic and audience scores across the board, SUPERMAN opened big during Thursday night previews to the tune of being Gunn's biggest Thursday night opening of his career.
According to Deadline:
"Count gravitational pull as a superpower for James Gunn‘s Superman as the first movie under the filmmaker’s co-run DC Studios with Peter Safran is heading to a massive $21M+ in overall previews, sources tell us..."Lots of records flying around here for the first title in DC’s phase one “Gods and Monsters”: First, Superman‘s previews rep a record for a James Gunn directed film besting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s $17.5M ($118.4M 3-day) and it’s also the best damn previews we’ve seen all year ahead of Disney’s Lilo & Stitch ($14.5M, $146M 3-day opening) and Captain America: Brave New World ($12M, $88.8M 3-day)."
This is beyond what Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios could have hoped for and this means the weekend opening number is also going up, as the first film of the new DCU should bring in over $200 million in the worldwide box office. That would place this new film above the last Superman movie MAN OF STEEL, which opened to $200.3 million worldwide ($116.6M domestic opening) in 2013.
