SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE Beats GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Domestic Opening For Biggest of Summer 2023

If you have yet to see SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE... you will soon enough because it'll be hard to resist the hype around it right now.

Word of mouth, critical acclaim, wonderful audience scores, impeccable art styling, and just being a badass movie in general has helped, and will continue to help, this sequel make a boatload of cash in the coming weeks.

According to Deadline, Spider-Verse's opening weekend estimate has come in and it has overtaken GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 ($118.4M) for the top grossing summer opening weekend domestically for 2023. 

The sequel has taken in approximately $120.5 million in domestic dollars making it the third highest grossing opening weekend for any Spider-Man franchise film. Only SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME ($260M) and SPIDER-MAN 3 ($151M) have opened with better domestic numbers.

Internationally, the film took in an additional estimate of $88 million to bring its worldwide total to $208 million. For comparison purposes, SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE took in $384 million worldwide for its entire theatrical run. 

So it's safe to say that this sequel will easily surpass the original's box office tally and its ending will give next year's SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE a tremendous amount of hype and buzz before it releases on March 29.
