DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Opens With $187 Million Domestically; Over $450M Worldwide

The Doctor is in and had a wonderful domestic and worldwide opening this past weekend to kick off the summer movie season.

According to Deadline, DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS took in an impressive $36 million in box office ticket sales for it's opening preview night on Thursday. This ranks as the eighth best Thursday night opening of all time.

Sitting right behind AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and its $39 million opening preview night, the Doctor Strange sequel was still way behind SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME and its $50 million preview night haul. Although No Way Home is the second best Thursday night opening ever, only behind AVENGERS: ENDGAME.

When adding the preview night total to its Friday ticket sales, the sequel had an opening day total of $90M putting it into the Top 10 for Friday openings of all time.

For the entirety of the weekend, Doctor Strange took in $187M at the domestic box office. This is the eleventh best opening weekend ever behind AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and its $191M opening.

Overseas, the sequel has amassed over $265 million in ticket sales.

Worldwide, the total opening weekend is already at over $450 million.

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS is looking to target the $1 billion club for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and not much comes out in the next few weeks for theatrical competition until the Memorial Day extended weekend at the end of this month..
