Sony Announces Third Spider-Verse Movie Title and Reveals EL MUERTO Spider-Man Spin-Off Movie

CinemaCon is happening in Las Vegas and Sony has revealed a few new pieces of information about upcoming films.

First, the third part of their animated Spider-Verse franchise now has an official title. The second film, which was just pushed back to June 3, 2023 is already known as SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE and now its sequel will be titled, SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE. The third film in this animated trilogy will release on March 29, 2024.

Second, some footage was shown for SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE, however, it was not finished footage and a mix of nearly completed footage, rough animation, and sketches. Obviously, the movie needed more time and this is most likely why it has been pushed back from fall this year to summer 2023. If you want to read about the footage, click here.

Finally, Sony announced that musician-turned-actor Bad Bunny will star as El Muerto which is a Latino version of Spider-Man in a live action movie.

According to Entertainment Weekly:

"Juan Carlos Estrada Sanchez, alias El Muerto, is a hero in the Spider-verse, a super powered wrestler whose powers (super strength and endurance) and mask were passed down from generation to generation.

"'It's amazing. it's incredible. I love wrestling. I grew up watching it and now I'm a wrestler,' Bad Bunny said of playing El Muerto during a surprise appearance at the Sony presentation during CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Monday night. 'This is why I love this character. I think its the perfect role to me, it will be epic.'"

No further info was provided about this new film that we will simply call EL MEURTO for the time being and until an official title has been revealed.
