SUPERGIRL Season 6 Episode 4 Review: Lost Soul

With a magical imp now on their side in the Phantom Zone, Kara and her father are able to find the Anchor. A way to get out of the Phantom Zone. However, when they get there the way out, a mirror to show them their home, is broken. Their only way out, destroyed.

Back on Earth, Lena officially joins the Superteam and is immediately making herself helpful. She designs a Prototrap (as Brainy pointed out is basically a ghost trapped like in Ghostbusters) to catch The Phantom and his progeny. This will help them contain them more easily. In addition to that, M’gann discovers she’s still partly connected to the Phantom’s hive mind. She has similar abilities like being able to locate a specific person. Hmm like Supergirl? Convenient.

They get an alert to a Phantom attacking a business. They find one turning a woman into a progeny. Brainy is able to trap it in the Prototrap but the woman already gets turned. They fight against her but the Prime Phantom arrives (much bigger thanks to all he’s turned) and escapes with his new minion. He’s going to be a tough one to beat.

M’gann attempted to follow the soul of the woman who turned progeny to the Phantom’s lair but she was unable to without turning into a phantom as well. Brainy is able to calculate if they don’t stop the Phantom soon he’ll be unstoppable and they won’t be able to free the souls he’s captured.

They are faced with a dilemma: Focus on freeing the souls and capturing the Phantom which will also restore M’gann’s soul and make her lose her sensing ability or focusing on using M’gann’s new sensing ability to find Kara. J’onn knows that it’s most important to stop the Earth from turning into another Phantom Zone but Alex refuses to give up.

Lena works on trying to relocate M’gann’s sensing ability with Q-waves while the others tackle the Phantom. Alex gives her the crystal that Kara left her last words on to use as a digital life force. A digital life force? Seems fake but okay.

Combining Dreamers powers with M’gann’s, they’re able to see the team is running one of time before the container that is holding the souls makes it impossible to free them. The only option is for Lena to use the device for finding Kara and override it to find the Phantom. This is heartbreaking for Lena and Alex both, but Alex knows that it’s the right thing to do.

With the tracker, Alex, Brainy, Nia, and J’onn are able to find the Phantom’s hideout. Brainy, J’onn, and Nia are all taken as the Phantom’s victims and Alex is left to break the Chrysalis holding the souls and their souls quickly find their phantom inhabited bodies and return back to humans. All there’s left is the initial Phantom and the team arrives just in time to send it into the Prototrap. All in a day's work.

In the Phantom Zone, Zor-El is able to find a second mirror they can use but they’ve been followed by one of the prisoners that attacked him. They’re unable to carry him and the mirror so he implores Kara to leave him and then come back when the mirror is working.

Kara is able to activate the mirror and see home. She intends to go after Zor-El but Nyxly tries to convince her to leave him. She even reveals that she is the one who attacked him and not another prisoner. Wow, you can’t trust any 5th dimensional imps in this show. She intends on wreaking havoc on earth on the way back to the 5th dimension. Kara isn’t having that. They fight but the damage activates the self destruct mechanism. Kara does the only thing she can and destroys the mirror and their only way out. She gets out in time but Nyxly refuses to leave as the building collapses. But is she really dead? Doubtful.

With the team finally solving the Phantom problem, they move on to finding Kara. After learning that the Prime hunts on instinct, Lena thinks they can use Kara’s DNA and use him as a bloodhound. That’s got to be emasculating for him.

This leads to Nia realizing that her visions of Kara and Alex in Midvale were exactly that. A way to get Kara’s DNA so they could track her. So now they’ve got to go back in time. No pressure.
