Marvel Studios to Produce MCU Connected Shows For Disney's Streaming Service; LOKI and SCARLET WITCH Already Rumored

Move over Marvel TV as Marvel Studios will be producing Marvel Cinematic Universe connected superhero series for Disney's streaming channel!

According to Variety, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige will be taking an active role in developing limited series for the new service specifically citing that the most likely series to arise could be actor Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Loki for his own series and actress Elizabeth Olsen will return as Scarlet Witch for her own. Plus, several other unknown series currently in-the-works.

Variety writes:

"There’s an important distinction from other Marvel small screen efforts, however. The actors who portrayed these heroes and villains in the Avengers films and their spin-offs, such as Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen, are expected to play them in the streaming shows. Moreover, though sources close to the production are staying mum on the cost of the programming, the budgets are expected to be hefty rivaling those of a major studio productions. Each series is expected to include six to eight episodes. Marvel Studios will produce the shows and Kevin Feige, the guru of all things MCU, is expected to take a hands-on role in their development...

"The Marvel series are in early development and writers have yet to be attached to the projects. Marvel TV Studios and Disney have been active with shows that include ABC’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and Netflix’s “Daredevil,” but sources say those shows will stay under Marvel TV banner with these limited series set under Marvel Studios."

This is the first anyone has heard about Marvel Studios producing streaming series. So while it is a surprise Marvel TV is not the one who would be bringing new shows to the streaming service this implies how big of a divide there really is between Marvel Studios and Marvel TV.

Marvel Studios reports directly to Alan Horn at Disney Studios, while Marvel TV continues to report to Marvel's CEO Ike Perlmutter and it seems Disney prefers the studio to help fill in content needs for their streaming service in 2019.... at least for now as Marvel TV could be tapped for content at some point, too.
