First Official Look at Brie Larson as CAPTAIN MARVEL; Plus New Movie Info

Entertainment Weekly has begun their information dump on all-things CAPTAIN MARVEL starting with actress Brie Larson in the above image, as well as gracing the cover of their new issue as Carol Danvers in full superhero attire.

Danvers is a former Air Force pilot turned Intergalactic badass who is half-human and half-Kree — an alien species getting its full reveal in the upcoming CAPTAIN MARVEL film. The movie will be a precursor to the events of IRON MAN as it will take place in the 1990s with Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury (pre-eye patch, pre-Director of SHIELD) as well as the return of fan-favorite Phil Coulson, played by actor Clark Gregg. Also appearing the movie will be Jude Law as the commander of the elite Kree military team called Starforce.

Villain-wise, returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, as well as Djimon Hounsou as Korath; both reprising roles from GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Plus, Ben Mendelsohn will be the Skrull leader Talos, who is trying to lead a Skrull invasion of Earth.

Larson teased her character:

“She can’t help but be herself,” Larson tells EW. “She can be aggressive, and she can have a temper, and she can be a little invasive and in your face. She’s also quick to jump to things, which makes her amazing in battle because she’s the first one out there and doesn’t always wait for orders. But the [not] waiting for orders is, to some, a character flaw.”

It is being reported now that CAPTAIN MARVEL will forego the traditional origin story as Danvers will already have her powers as the movie begins and she joins the Starforce team led by Law.

CAPTAIN MARVEL releases in the U.S. on March 8, 2019.
