If Marvel Studios Would Add THOR to GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 it Would Excite Fans More Than Ever

Please note that this post is purely speculative as I do not have any inside information about GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3.

So GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 is now officially delayed due to the firing of writer and director James Gunn last month. The cast is still signed on for a third film in the franchise, however, Marvel Studios has to find a new director to helm the project — which will still use the script written by Gunn.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has met with THOR: RAGNAROK helmer Taika Waititi to potentially take the reigns of Volume 3. Yet nothing has come out of that meeting at the moment. Waititi would be a solid choice as his style of moviemaking is a perfect fit for the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, in my opinion. And surely Waititi would tinker with Gunn's script a bit to make it fit more in-line with his own directing style.

But there is a much bigger reason to want Waititi to helm Volume 3 and that lies with the fact that some of the greatest parts of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR are the scenes when Thor is with the Guardians members. I may be stretching my speculation quite a bit here, but I truly think if Waititi came on board to direct Volume 3 then he should bring actor Chris Hemsworth along for the ride in a co-starring or supporting role. In a move like this, a lot of the negativity surrounding the firing of Gunn would helped to be (somewhat) washed away if Thor teams up with the Guardians again.

Hemsworth has been vocal about the fact his studio contract is up after AVENGERS 4 and he may be done with the role unless the script is right. But he's said how he is also reinvigorated in the role after THOR: RAGNAROK, and AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, "re-invented" the character.

“I felt like we re-invented him,” Hemsworth told USA Today. “There is a bigger platform now to continue if we want to.”

Adding Thor into the Guardians cast for Volume 3 would not only be a clever move to get more casual fans excited for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3, but it would make the hardcore fanbase lose their collective minds.

Again, this is all just a hopeful pitch to Marvel Studios, but it is one that should at least be discussed behind the closed doors at Marvel Studios' offices in Burbank.
