DC Movie News: SUPERGIRL in Development, THE FLASH and BIRDS OF PREY Readying For 2019 Production

A few interesting bits of information have been revealed about several upcoming DC live action movies, via Deadline. Let's start with the newest project in development...

SUPERGIRL is making her way to the big screen as Warner Bros. has found a writer to develop a script. Oren Uziel (22 JUMP STREET, THE CLOVERFIELD PARADOX, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG [live action]) has been tapped to create the story for SUPERGIRL and rumor has it this could be a jumping off point for more Superman, too.

THE FLASH will star actor Ezra Miller, with Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley set to direct. After going through several directors and being caught in development limbo for a few years, filming will begin sometime in early 2019 which could mean a likely 2020 release date for the solo movie; although no date is currently set for it at this moment. Rumors have circulated that Wonder Woman or Cyborg could appear alongside the speedster in his movie.

Finally, BIRDS OF PREY is coming with actress Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn in the female team-up movie. A report from TheWrap claims Batman's villain The Black Mask will be the main antagonist with Black Canary, Huntress, Renee Montoya, and a young Cassandra Cain rounding out the girl-power roster. Filming is said to begin a soon as January 2019, so it may be another 2020 release for the studio.

AQUAMAN is scheduled to hit theaters this December 21, SHAZAM! on April 5, 2019, Joaquin Phoenix's JOKER standalone movie will begin filming next month for an October 4, 2019 release, and WONDER WOMAN 1984 will hit theaters on November 2, 2019.
