Lucasfilm Denies Rumor Claiming A STAR WARS STORY Movies on Hold, Say Multiple Movies in Development

Earlier this week a rumor hit the Internet claiming Lucasfilm and Disney were putting a hold on all A STAR WARS STORY standalone movies immediately, and indefinitely. This was said to be due to SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY underperforming in the worldwide box office.

While this rumor made the rounds on many fan blogs and sites, it was never confirmed by any of the big Hollywood websites like The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Deadline, TheWrap, or Entertainment Weekly. When these big and well-connected movie industry news sites do not pick up a rumor like this to confirm it, that is a big sign that a report is not to be taken seriously.

Now, Lucasfilm has officially denied this rumor to ABC News, who reports:

"Lucasfilm sources on Thursday characterized as 'inaccurate' a report that future 'Star Wars' movies falling outside of the regular trilogy storyline (Episodes I to IX) have been put on hold in the wake of the box office under-performance of 'Solo: A Star Wars Story.'"

"Instead, Lucasfilm told ABC News there are still 'multiple' Star Wars films currently in development that have not been officially announced. Those projects are moving forward separate from an already-announced 'Star Wars' trilogy being overseen by 'The Last Jedi' director Rian Johnson and another series of movies from "Game of Thrones" producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss."

Entertainment Weekly, who is also well-connected within the movie industry, had one of its own writers respond to the rumor report on Twitter...

The point here is to say how Lucasfilm hasn't revealed any Star Wars movie release dates past the December 2019 release of writer and director J.J. Abrams' STAR WARS EPISODE IX. So while it seems like A STAR WARS STORY movies may be on hold, they are just in the processing of developing more of them right now. This also show that the studio is fully focused on creating the best possible Episode IX movie, which is the conclusion to the current trilogy, they possibly can. Plus, it would be ridiculous to bring on writer and director James Mangold to helm a BOBA FETT movie just a few weeks ago to then suddenly putting it on hold indefinitely.

Don't believe every report you read online, especially when larger movie industry new sites don't pick up a rumor report to confirm it shortly after.
