AGENTS OF SHIELD Gets Renewed For Shortened Season 6 But Won't Debut Until Summer 2019

Fans of Marvel's AGENTS OF SHIELD have been on the edge of their seat as ABC was trying to figure out if they were going to renew the series for Season 6. It has finally happened (via THR) although for a much shorter 13-episode season instead of a 22-episode season order. Also, Season 6 will not air on ABC until about a year from now, sometime in summer 2019.

“What we’ve discovered is that we have a very loyal and passionate fan base for S.H.I.E.L.D. The show does incredibly well for us in delayed viewing,” ABC president Channing Dungey said, via TVLine. “By putting it in the summer, we’re going to be able to super-serve the fan base that loves that show and hopefully give it an opportunity to continue on longer than we would if it was [scheduled] in-season.”

Not airing until after AVENGERS 4 means the show will not have to deal with the after-effects of Thanos' snap of his fingers at the end of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. Smart.
