AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Breaks Opening Records With $258 Million Domestically, $640 Million Worldwide

UPDATE - 4/30/18 10:54 a.m. Eastern: Entertainment Weekly is reporting numbers as high as $258 million domestically and $382 million Internationally, for a total of $640 million globally! Headline has been updated to reflect these latest numbers. Original post as follows...

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR has broken the biggest two box office records this weekend. The largest domestic opening weekend ever, and the biggest worldwide opening weekend of all-time.

Domestically, Infinity War beat the opening weekend record previously held by STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS ($247M) by taking in an estimated $258 million. This also makes AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR only the sixth movie in history to open over $200 million joining The Force Awakens, STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI ($220M), JURASSIC WORLD ($208M), THE AVENGERS ($207M), and BLACK PANTHER ($202M).

Internationally, the latest Avengers movie brought in an estimated $380 million.

Globally, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR opened to a total estimate of $630 million. This easily beat the previous worldwide opening record holder THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS and its $541 million. The most impressive fact about this new worldwide record opening is that the film didn't open in China, and won't until May 11. That'll be a huge bump for its International gross.

Currently dubbed as the biggest cinematic cliffhanger since STAR WARS EPISODE V: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (dubbed by me, by the way), Marvel fans worldwide will now have to wait a year until they see the conclusion to this story in AVENGERS 4. By all accounts, AVENGERS 4 will in fact be another huge opening for Disney and Marvel Studios as everyone will be theorizing and speculating about what happens next for the next 12 months.

Now, we wait and see how much box office money AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR can make before this summer's next big blockbuster movie sequel, DEADPOOL 2, releases on May 18. There is definitely a chance Infinity War could break the $2 billion worldwide mark, as STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS accomplished in 2015, as long as it can maintain its strong word-of-mouth and positive buzz that is bound to be a topic of discussion at the water cooler this week.
