Box Office Report: BLACK PANTHER Surpasses THE AVENGERS Domestically and IRON MAN 3 Worldwide

Marvel's BLACK PANTHER may have lost its No. 1 spot in its sixth weekend of release in the domestic box office to PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING, but it achieved two major accomplishments.

First, BLACK PANTHER is officially the highest grossing domestic superhero movie release of all-time surpassing THE AVENGERS. BLACK PANTHER took an estimated $16 million this weekend to bring its domestic total to $630 million; THE AVENGERS took in $623 million. An astounding achievement and one that will surely be talked about for years. Of course the release of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is on the horizon, on April 27, which will surely surpass the King of Wakanda's domestic tally.

The second major accomplishment BLACK PANTHER achieved this weekend was moving past IRON MAN 3 ($1.21B). It is now Marvel Studios's No. 3 highest grossing worldwide film only behind THE AVENGERS ($1.5B) and AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON ($1.4B). BLACK PANTHER has amassed $1.23 billion globally and it is now the 12th highest grossing movie worldwide of all-time.
