Joss Whedon No Longer Helming BATGIRL Movie

Warner Bros., DC Entertainment, and Joss Whedon are parting ways, per The Hollywood Reporter. The writer and director has been developing a solo BATGIRL movie since March 2017, but he will no longer helm the solo BATGIRL movie. Whedon has said he doesn't have a story to bring it to the big screen.

"Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn't have a story. I'm grateful to [DC head] Geoff [Johns] and [Warner Bros. Pictures Group president] Toby [Emmerich] and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I…uh, is there a sexier word for 'failed'?"

While some people on social media have mentioned how this departure could be due to his terrible experience working on JUSTICE LEAGUE, it is refreshing to hear someone in Hollywood be straight forward. Whedon saying he did not have a story is an honest answer instead of simply issuing a statement using the overused 'creative differences' excuse for leaving the project.

Whedon, according to Variety, was allegedly working to adapt the comic book story arc, "The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl!" to the big screen, but that obviously did not work out.
