SUPERGIRL Season 3 Episode 2: Triggers

While Maggie and Alex are blissfully happy waking up together and Samantha and her daughter, Ruby, are preparing for their first days at work and school, Kara wakes up alone. Obviously still feeling the loss of Mon-El, she prepares for another day. Samantha and Ruby discuss what happened at the waterfront. Ruby is adamant that she is a superhero and should explore her powers which Samantha waves off.

Kara, trying to be more present as Supergirl, comes in to the DEO after a bank robbery happens where the only robber (Portrayed by Yael Grobglas) there had no weapons and everyone just got out of the way and cowered in fear so she could get the money. Supergirl quickly finds her with the money but is disoriented by her by visions of space. This episode was brought upon the bank robber and it's revealed she used to have this when she first came to earn.

Samantha has to leave her first day of work when her daughter, Ruby, punches a fellow student in the face. Yes. Punched. Closed fist. Either impressive or worrisome. The root of her fighting seems to be because a kid told her, her mom wasn’t a superhero. Not exactly cause of a punch but it’s enough for Ruby and Samantha to fight and for Ruby to run off.

With a location on our blonde robber, Supergirl finds her in a parking garage. Hank creates a psychic shield around Kara’s mind to protect her but the robber uses it against him. She gets the upper hand by using her fear against her, showing her visions of her departure from Krypton. Supergirl is left debilitated worse than before and the robber escapes again.

Winn brings up her past bank robberies and her name; Psi. In an effort to help Winn to improve the psychic dampeners. confides in Winn what she did to her, making her feel alone and terrified like she was in the pod to earth when she was just a child. His insistence on her talking to her sister goes unheard. Kara is still wanting to face everything herself as Supergirl.

With Lena now having the majority shares, she is getting used to her new position at Catco and planning meetings and such much James’ displeasure. Lena can tell Kara is being distracted and thinks it's about Mon-El. Kara, who keeps running off whenever Lena needs something, gets snippy which makes Lena bringing up her lack of professionalism. With James being rigid about her new role at Catco, having her friend’s lack of support hurts Lena.

Kara has a claustrophobic attack on the elevator after getting a update that Psi was robbing another bank. By the time she flies through the elevator out of the building, she's gone. This prompts Winn to tell Alex what’s been going on with Kara who checks on her.

Psi attacks another bank. This one is near where Ruby is eating at a restaurant and she sees it all who texts her mother hoping to prove that she is really a superhero. Winn is successful in creating a psychic inhibitor ray to block her powers which Supergirl brings to the site. She gets there in time to stop a demolition ball from dropping on Samantha and Ruby.

The inhibitors doesn't work and Kara breaks down to her knees with the vision of Mon-El dying in a pod and feels she killed him and that's why they haven't heard from them. Kara is tortured by her part in not just sending him away but possibly sending him to die anyways. Alex talks to Kara and gets her to accept that Mon-El is still alive and the city still needs her. Kara who learns that mind over matter is truly important, headbutts and knocks Psi out.

Lena and Kara make up after the whole Psi fiasco (James isn't there yet). It's there that Samantha is introduced to Lena and is revealed to be heading up L-Corp while Lena works at Catco. So possibly and in a position of power? Not a good combination.

Our cliffhanger scene shows Hank drinking alone and hears Megan's voice begging him to come to Mars. It’s been awhile since our pal Hank has gotten a storyline. With him going back to his old planet, it’s sure to bring memories.

This episode continued to show Kara’s more traumatic history with her being sent away as a kid alone and having to deal with the choices of sending all the Daxamites away. Alex, as always, has been her rock and guide throughout the series and their relationship is always a good basis for an episode.

Samantha has finally met Kara and it looks like they'll be working together as well. With Samantha starting to get a hold on her power, it's hard not to wonder how much of a role Kara will play and if she may help to develop her identity as Reign.

Things may be looking down for Alex soon. While Maggie and Alex have been in their engagement bliss and have been arguing over silly things, they've missed something. Alex is thrown when Maggie reveals she doesn't want kids, the opposite of Alex’s desires. Kind of an important talk that could have this whole wedding coming to an abrupt stop
