Marvel Studios Press Tour Reveals Teases For BLACK PANTHER, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, CAPTAIN MARVEL and More

On Monday, a few lucky members of the Hollywood press were invited to get a tour of Marvel Studios' offices on Disney Studios' Burbank lot. This was the first time any press has toured these offices and some teases were strategically revealed to generate excitement and fan hype as Marvel Studios is the best at doing. The following information has been sourced from io9.

THOR: RAGNAROK

Director Taika Waititi has confirmed his cameo role will be as Korg, from the stone alien race the Kronan. Waititi preformed this role in motion capture and this is not the first time the Kronan race has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as their debut was in THOR: THE DARK WORLD for a brief moment. (Releases in the U.S. on November 3, 2017.)

BLACK PANTHER

Filming wraps today, April 19, and director Ryan Coogler begins editing the movie for its February 16, 2018 release. Here's io9's recap of this portion of the tour:

"We saw a sizzle reel explaining the world of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman). It included some truly spectacular concept art and images that go by so fast, it’s hard to detail them all, but what did stand out was the bustling technology of Wakanda: Black jet planes and huge buildings that look modern, but also have a very African feel. There was a shot of what appeared to be two Black Panthers fighting in some kind of underground area. And just beautifully vibrant costumes on everyone, but especially the Dora Milaje. There was a scene in which T’Challa appeared to be fighting someone on a rhino, and also a black arm gauntlet that looks like a panther with the mouth opening at the fist.
"Then, we saw dailies from Black Panther. There was a scene of Lupita Nyong’o’s character (who wasn’t named but referred to as a member of a border tribe) silently killing a bunch of soldiers. That was followed by the Dora Milaje, the royal bodyguards, on a boat surrounded by blue screen, on the way to the king’s coronation; their costumes were beaded, red and gorgeous. Then the border tribe returned, dressed in all greens, going to the same event on a similar boat, where everyone is dancing in unison.
"We then saw what was likely part of that coronation. It took place at Warrior Falls and featured T’Challa walking down a ramp in front of a cliff lined with all kinds of people, where Forest Whitaker’s character introduced him to the crowd. Boseman didn’t have a shirt on so you could see a huge tattoo going around his back and onto his chest.
"The footage shifted then to a casino in Korea where Klaw (Andy Serkis) enters with eight men and talks to Everett Ross (Martin Freeman). Ross noted that Klaw’s entourage is so big, he must have a mix-tape coming out, to which Klaw replies, 'I do, get him the link.' There will be a big shoot out in this casino featuring both those characters, as well as T’Challa."

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

The only piece of info revealed for Infinity War was concept art of Thanos without his helmet, wearing a skin-tight jumpsuit and wielding the Infinity Gauntlet with all six of the Infinity Stones in the glove. (Releases in the U.S. on May 4, 2018.)
-----

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP

Director Peyton Reed showed some concept art of Wasp's suit as well as another upgraded version of the Ant-Man suit which is even sleeker than the one seen in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. Also shown was concept art of Giant-Man standing in a hangar as well as a giant dog with Ant-Man and the Wasp standing inside of its mouth. (Or if could have been a giant dog with regular size Ant-Man and the Wasp in its mouth.) Reed said filming will begin at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta in the coming weeks. (Releases in the U.S. on July 6, 2018.)

CAPTAIN MARVEL

We already know actress Brie Larson will be Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel, but there is still no director attached to the movie. This is not a concern since its release is still 23 months away, but they are nearing their final decision of hiring a director.

Some concept art was shown of Larson in a comic book-inspired Captain Marvel costume, however, once a director is brought on that look can and probably will change. Marvel Studios did say once they green light a movie project, their visual development and concept team begins creating the look of the movie even before the script is completed and anyone is attached to it. This is why the press tour saw Captain Marvel punching the fist of a giant robot in a piece of concept art. Again, that may or may not make it into the final movie in 2019.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 AND BEYOND

In conclusion, according to SlashFilm, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that after AVENGERS 4 (May 3, 2019) — which is confirmed to have an appearance by Spider-Man — there is already talk of having writer and director James Gunn potentially have a larger role in Phase 4. Nothing is set in stone right now beyond Gunn returning to write and direct GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3, but his role could be even bigger than that in a Joss Whedon-Russo Brothers-like role helping to oversee Marvel's Phase 4 slate of films and story arcs. Now this is just our own speculation here at DailySuperHero.com, but one would have to assume he could be called upon to write and direct AVENGERS 5 if he has such a Phase 4 role. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 will play a huge role in the MCU's Phase 4 which begins either after AVENGERS 4 or SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING 2 starting in 2020.
