LOGAN Takes in More on Thursday Night Than the Last 2 X-MEN Movies

Fox has a big hit on their hands as the initial estimates for Thursday screenings of LOGAN have been reported. Hugh Jackman's final Wolverine movie took in an estimate $9.5 million last night surpassing the Thursday night domestic tallies of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST ($8.1 million) and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE ($8.2 million).

The only recent Marvel movie, by 20th Century Fox, LOGAN did not beat on Thursday night was the $12.7 million DEADPOOL took in over a year ago. And for comparison purposes, Marvel Studios' DOCTOR STRANGE opened on its Thursday night with $9.4 million and took in a total of $85 million in its entire opening weekend.

Initial domestic opening weekend projections for LOGAN predicted an opening in the $70 million range, but with Thursday's numbers in it sounds like LOGAN will exceed that mark and could go into the $80 million range. Especially with the tremendously positive work-of-mouth from both the critics and those who have now seen it Thursday night. (Read our spoiler-free review by clicking here.)

With two big R-rated openings under Fox's belt, LOGAN and DEADPOOL, the studio has staked its claim to R-rated Marvel movies which the perfect path to take to give fans something different than what's being offered by Disney's Marvel Studios and the DC superhero films from Warner Bros.

It will be interesting to see how big LOGAN can perform throughout this weekend. Stay tuned.
