GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Reportedly Receives "Perfect Score" at In-House Test Screening

It's time to have a quick chat about internal movie studio test screenings. They are done at pretty much every studio before a movie is released to see if any last minute changes are needed. When test screeners go bad, that's when you hear reports that a movie which is releasing soon is suddenly pushed back months (a recent example would be G.I. JOE: RETALIATION). When test screeners do well, then it's full steam ahead to release.

Test screeners are a weird thing in Hollywood because there a few different types but there two that are the more popular types. The first is by taking random people off the street and having them sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement to keep their mouth shut after seeing it then that person joins a larger group who all watch a movie way before it hits theaters. The second most popular type is an internal test screening with friends and family of those who are working on a movie as well as studio employees. Both have what is pretty much a 'score sheet' and the movie gets a score from each viewer. The latter has some bias because friends and family have that built into their conscience, although if your sample size is somewhat the same group of people every time then you can get results beneficial to the movie's test score.

Which brings us to a new report by The Hollywood Reporter who have found out through their Tinsletown sources that an internal screening for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 has gotten itself a perfect 100 score. This is obviously better than the previous high test scores which were in the alleged high 90s for IRON MAN 3 and THE AVENGERS. This is impressive regardless of the internal test screening nature of the sequel since Marvel Studios has reportedly only done friends and family screenings for all their in-house movies since IRON MAN.

Some people will think this is an intentional internal leak to continue to build hype for the sequel. But does this movie even need more hype? Baby Groot has already propelled this sequel's hype into the stratosphere so it's not like the movie needed any help with pre-release hype. And sure, this does drive the hype even higher now.

As the weeks and months go by, until May 5, it seems more and more evident that GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 is destined to be Marvel Studios' fifth $1 billion movie joining THE AVENGERS, AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, IRON MAN 3 and CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR.
