POWERLESS Introduces Van Wayne Providing Further Proof a Different Series Concept Was Teased Last Summer

Last summer, at San Diego Comic-Con 2016, the first teaser for NBC's POWERLESS was revealed. What was shown was that it would be DC's first comedy series as a show based within an insurance company whose employees had to deal with the fallout of big super hero battles. The show concept was scrapped sometime between last summer and recently because POWERLESS is now a show based at Wayne Security with lab work being done to create gadgets to help keep normal people safe in a world filled with powerful heroes and villains.

This change also seems to have somewhat pivoted the role of actor Alan Tudyk, who a much larger role than before. He was going to be the boss at the insurance company and while he is still the boss in the new show concept, he has officially been revealed to be Bruce Wayne's cousin, Van Wayne, in the new promo spot below.

POWERLESS debuts on NBC on February 2.

“In a world where humanity must cope with the collateral damage of Super Heroes and Super-Villains, Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens) begins her first day as Director of Research & Development for Wayne Security, a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises that specializes in products that make defenseless bystanders feel a little safer. Full of confidence and big ideas, Emily quickly learns that her expectations far exceed those of her new boss (Alan Tudyk) and officemates, so it will be up to her to lead the team toward their full potential and the realization that you don’t need superpowers to be a hero.”
