DOCTOR STRANGE: IMAX 15 Minute Preview Opened, Expanded and Blew Many Minds Tonight

"This is the most visually ambitious movie I've seen in a very long time."

This is what I said to myself the moment tonight's 15-minute IMAX preview of Marvel's DOCTOR STRANGE ended. It was so visually intense it had my heart-pounding during several of its scenes when Dr. Stephen Strange was going throughout the multiverse.

Marvel Studios' 14th film in their Marvel Cinematic Universe is most definitely an origin movie for the good doctor. This might roll the eyes of some, but there's also a darker tone to what was shown in tonight's preview (read: 15-minute trailer) that hasn't been seen in previous MCU movies.

Director Scott Derrickson has a filmography history in the horror genre and that influence could be seen throughout this preview. There was a moment with some creepy hands as well as what appeared to be some demonic imagery, too.

Part of the scene when Strange meets the Ancient Once was also shown and the former surgeon's arrogant and cocky attitude was most definitely present, until she shut up his attitude by showing him things beyond his wildest dreams (and nightmares). The Ancient One, then, sends Strange into a tease of the multiverse and that's when the visuals became so immersive and trippy it is not easily described except to say it looked like THE MATRIX and INCEPTION hanging out together with every psychedelic known to mankind. Doctor Strange creator Steve Ditko would be so proud.

Not much of the story was revealed in the preview but a "splash page" scene was shown were Strange is thrown over a railing and you see his Cloak of Levitation fly after him as he fell. After a moment, he appears floating up in the air with the cloak on and ready to continue the fight.

Finally, the 3D in DOCTOR STRANGE looks to be Marvel Studios' best in any of their previous movies. At the introduction of the preview, actor Benedict Cumberbatch stated how they're maximizing 3D technology and you could definitely tell because the 3D effects shown tonight makes this movie a must-see in the format. Even if you're not the biggest fan of 3D, this is one film you should see at least once in the Third Dimension.

November 4 can't get here soon enough.
