SUICIDE SQUAD: Jared Leto Doesn't Sound Happy That Many JOKER Scenes Were Cut Out

***THIS POST CONTAINS MILD SPOILERS FOR SUICIDE SQUAD.***

If you already saw SUICIDE SQUAD you probably wanted one of two things when it came to Jared Leto's Joker: You either wanted more of him or you thought his role wasn't needed at all.

Now, it has come to light, from Leto himself, that much of his work as the Joker had been left on the editing room floor and did not make it into the cut of the movie you saw at the theater.

“Were there any that didn’t get cut? I’m asking you, were there any that didn’t get cut? There were so many scenes that got cut from the movie, I couldn’t even start. I think that the Joker… we did a lot of experimentation on the set, we explored a lot. There’s so much that we shot that’s not in the film.

This is what Leto told IGN and it sounds like he's a little annoyed that many of his scenes did not make it into the theatrical cut. Meanwhile, director David Ayer is contesting a report saying there were multiple cuts of SUICIDE SQUAD forced onto him by Warner Bros. executives and that the released cut is in fact his version of the movie (via Collider).

"We have a chunk, there’s definitely over 10 minutes of material on there. But this cut of the movie is my cut, there’s no sort of parallel universe version of the movie, the released movie is my cut..."

Leto also told the French website Telastar (via HH) a lot of his Joker scenes were cut out and he hopes they will be seen someday.

"Oh, there are a lot of [deleted] scenes, yeah, there are a lot of scenes that didn’t make it to the final film. And hopefully they’ll see the light of day … who knows?"

Leto, either joking or sounding a bit annoyed things were cut out, went on to get a bit morbid with IGN about his Joker deleted scenes. (He is an Oscar-winner, so he has every right to be annoyed.)

“If I die anytime soon, it’s probably likely that it’ll surface somewhere. That’s the good news about the death of an actor is all that stuff seems to come out.”

Maybe if more of the Joker's scenes were in the movie, his inclusion would have been a better fit, because what was seen in the film felt like it wasn't even necessary to have the Joker included. The assumption here is that the recent report about Warner Bros. allegeldy meddling with the movie in post-production is probably at fault here, regardless of Ayer claiming the theatrical edit is his cut of the movie.

Bottom line, this all sounds like there is a better edit and cut of SUICIDE SQUAD which was left on the editing room and here's hoping that Warner Bros. wises up and stops their alleged post-production meddling on DC super hero movies and let filmmakers release the cut of the movie they want. Warner Bros. always touts itself as being a filmmaker-first studio but that seems like a lie anymore and doesn't sound like they are really a filmmaker-friendly studio they always claim to be.

Fingers crossed we get to see a 'SUICIDE SQUAD: ULTIMATE EDITION' extended cut just like we got with BATMAN V. SUPERMAN because that was by far the better version of the movie and SUICIDE SQUAD deserves that type of justice as well.
