Russos Considered Everyone For CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR; Maybe Those Iron Spider and Red Hulk Rumors Too

Take a moment and try to remember back to over a year-plus ago. If your memory serves you well, you probably remember a bunch of rumors continuously hitting the web with claims that Spider-Man's Iron Spider suit and Red Hulk might make appearances in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR.

Truth be told, when it was revealed that Spider-Man would make his debut in Civil War, nearly every rumor possible hit the Internet. Same is true for when William Hurt was said to return and reprise his role as General Thaddeus Ross, which immediately caused the rumor mill to churn out Red Hulk rumors. Those Red Hulk and Iron Spider rumors honestly felt forced like sites and blogs who were the source of these rumors desperately needed some web hits.

However, this may not have been the case and Joe and Anthony Russo have told ComicBook that they considered everyone for CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR.

"We had so many characters in that movie as it was," Joe said. "We consider everything, obviously, but with so many characters in that movie as it was to try and entertain adding another character and to get to the Red Hulk, you have to add a back story. You have to substantiate the narrative to get to that. [Thaddeus Ross], on our list of priorities, he was there sort of as the government's agenda and not to add another complicated super powered character to the mix.
"We had a board when we started this process of the movies with these Avengers characters that have ever graced the screen in a Marvel film and a list of characters that we have at our disposal that haven't graced the screen. We spent the last six to eight months crafting stories around the cornucopia of characters at our disposal so anything is possible."

Yet, please note, Joe Russo never confirmed Red Hulk or Iron Spider were ever in any draft of the Civil War script. He simply acknowledges that all heroes were considered in the early part of the development process for Civil War.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR releases on Digital HD on September 2 and on Blu Ray on September 13.
