Yesterday the embargo lifted for SUICIDE SQUAD set visits. We here at DailySuperHero.com would have put this post up online sooner but, in full disclosure, we shut down operations yesterday to spend a full day playing the mobile game craze that is Pokemon GO. And yes, several of us are extremely addicted already.
Anyway, Collider has one of the most thorough SUICIDE SQUAD set visit reports and we've read through all of it. The following are bullet points citing the most important information and reveals:
- It's kind of like a Batman movie but from the perspective of the villains instead of from the view of Bruce Wayne / Batman.
- There will be many flashbacks including the Joker and Harley Quinn's relationship prior to being held up in Arkham Asylum.
- The Belle Reve prison location is set in a secluded (and fictional) part of Louisiana and is meant to house powerful villains.
- All of the SUICIDE SQUAD team members are in their own secluded cell and have no contact with each other while in captivity.
- The Joker and Harley Quinn are not in Belle Reve and are in an old, broken down version of Arkham Asylum.
- Harley is a danger to the psychological health of the guards around her cell so they get rotated out often to prevent any psychological manipulation from her.
- You will see the full transformation of June Moone into Enchantress which also means her costumes will change and evolve in the film.
- Director David Ayer kept Jared Leto separate from the cast, as he went method and stayed in character as the Joker while on set.
- When Ayer brought the Joker in for his scenes, the other actors had very real reactions to the Joker since they didn't see him while on set until the cameras were rolling.
- The film is connected to BATMAN V. SUPERMAN in more ways than you might think.
- Despite all the hype around Harley Quinn and the Joker, Ayer says this is really a Will Smith (Deadshot) movie more than anything else and he wrote the part for Smith.
- Harley Quinn is crazy bonkers when around and with Joker but more norman when she's not and a part of Task Force X.
- Katana will speak to here sword, Soultaker.
- Even while on set last year, producers spoke about the humor in the movie which means it isn't a result of the critical panning after BATMAN V. SUPERMAN.
- There's a romance between Rick Flagg and June Moone.
- Actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje went the the everglades to research crocodile movement and he (as well as Ayer) developed a unique style when Killer Croc walks around or even attacks his opponent.
- The look of the Joker is inspired by the gangster criminal underworld as well as the cartel.
- There was an original jester costume made for Harley Quinn during the costume design process.
