When Disney licensed out the creation of Star Wars video games to EA Games, there were mixed opinions on the move from the gaming and Star Wars fan bases. Last year's release of STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT disappointed many, but not due to sales numbers. It was due to a lack of a true narrative as well as too few gameplay options including more local co-op options.
Now, according to Gamespot, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen confirmed on an earnings call that Battlefront 2 is in the works and will arrive in 2017. STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT 2 will have bigger worlds and maps and will feature content from STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS and (assumed) ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY, too.
Battlefront 2 is just one of three recently announced Star Wars video games coming soon. In fact, during the EA call, Jorgensen also announced there will be a new Star Wars video game released every year for the next several years. Over the past few weeks, there's been two other new Star Wars games announced.
Last month former Naughty Dog and Uncharted franchise creative director Amy Hennig was confirmed to be working on an undisclosed Star Wars game rumored to have an open-world by Visceral Games. If it's anything like the Uncharted games, it should be a gorgeous and spectacular action / adventure game.
A third new Star Wars game announcement was made last week. This new game will come form the creators of the Titanfall franchise, Respawn Entertainment, who are creating an "all-new third-person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe."
Besides STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT 2 hardly any information is known about the other two =in-development Star Wars games. Hopefully they will be teased a bit more, or fully revealed, while The Daily SuperHero is at E3 next month. Stay tuned.
