BATMAN V. SUPERMAN Struggles in its 4th Weekend and it Might Not Hit $900 Million Worldwide

Before its release, if you told me that BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE might not make $1 billion worldwide then I probably would've laughed at you. If you told me it might not hit $900M worldwide, I would've smacked your mouth and called you a crazy person. Well, four weekends into its release and this appears to be more plausible than ever.

BATMAN V. SUPERMAN took in an estimated $9 million, domestically, to finish in fourth place this weekend giving a a domestic total of $311M. The movie moves ahead of STAR WARS EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES ($310M), Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End ($309M) and STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI ($309M).

Overseas, the movie brought in an additional $15M to move its worldwide total to just over $827M. This moves the film into the Top 50 — literally the 50th spot — for worldwide film grosses all-time. Surpassing SPIDER-MAN ($821M) and Inception ($825M).

It's unlikely BATMAN V. SUPERMAN will be able to gain any ground at this point with Disney's The Jungle Book dominating the box office this weekend and next weekend, for sure. Disney's other blockbuster movie, by Marvel Studios coming on May 6, CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is also set for a gigantic debut in just about two weeks.

Rumors have been circulating that Warner Bros. is considering releasing their R-rated, 3-hour long cut of BATMAN V. SUPERMAN to help push it into the $1 Billion Club. But with the summer movie season right around the corner, a re-release for the movie kind of feels like too little too late at this point because it is still $73M away from $900M.

Hopefully, Warner Bros. and DC Films have learned a lot from the release of BATMAN V. SUPERMAN and some fine-tuning is made so JUSTICE LEAGUE can get into the $1 Billion Club in November 2017.
