"Strike while the iron is hot."
This is exactly what Warner Bros. and DC Films need to do now that actor Ben Affleck has been universally applauded for his turn as Bruce Wayne / Batman in BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE.
Yesterday, word hit the web (see post link below) that Affleck has written a solo BATMAN movie script and it's a really cool idea while also being Affleck's own take on the Caped Crusader. This is music to fans' and studio executive's ears but the fact remains that Warner Bros. has yet to set a date for a solo BATMAN movie in their schedule of DC Extended Universe movies.
Batman is the studio's moneymaker, without a doubt. His movies have made a combined total of $4.2 billion worldwide.
Now is the time to strike while the buzz surrounding Affleck's Batman is the hottest. Warner Bros. needs to plug Affleck's solo BATMAN movie into the 2018 movie schedule right away so this way there's a movie with Batman in it for the next three years. This year had BATMAN V. SUPERMAN and this summer's SUICIDE SQUAD will have a Batman cameo in it. Next year, in 2017, Batman will be in JUSTICE LEAGUE and in 2019 JUSTICE LEAGUE PART 2 will have Batman in it too since Affleck is contracted for two JUSTICE LEAGUE movies.
Add a solo BATMAN movie into the mix in 2018 and you have Batman every year from now through 2019.
Giving a green light now means the movie can revise and tweak the script and begin development and pre-production now for it to start filming in 2017. A two-year window before a movie release for super hero movies is not unheard of and is more than plausible so it can hit a possible 2018 release date.
This will all depend on the availability of Affleck's movie schedule, but if he's written a script then he knows he needs to leave a window open for a solo BATMAN movie sooner than later.
