DAREDEVIL Season 2: The PUNISHER is so Good He More Than Deserves His Own Netflix Spin-Off Series

Editorial: Whether or not you've finished your weekend binge of DAREDEVIL Season 2, one thing is certain from the moment the first episode starts... the Punisher is a big part of the new season. Of course you can make the argument that Elektra plays just as important of a role, but actor Jon Bernthal steals every single scene he's in.

The rage and emotion Bernthal puts into his portrayal is beyond perfect. A performance worthy of serious Emmy nomination consideration for Best Supporting Actor.  This version of the Punisher is so great that the majority of Marvel fans will forget about the fact there's been three different Punisher actors before him. (No disrespect to the previous actors, but Bernthal owns it.)

As Season 2 moves on, Bernthal becomes even more and more intense and violent. So violent there are a few cringe-worthy moments due to all the blood. Two specific moments are more than memorable because he is outnumbered each time — once while in jail and the other while in a diner — and instead of taking a strategic position he just runs right at his enemies screaming with fists-a-flying. There's no need to seek cover when you have nothing more to lose and are on a mission of vengeance.

But the range Benthal displays goes beyond the brutal violence and gallons of blood as he shows a sensitive side when talking to Karen Page about his family. A tough sell to the fan base but that is easily pulled off by the actor.

Back in January, word spread across the web that Netflix loved Bernthal's performance so much they were considering a spin-off series. And while Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb has tried to douse those rumors, the past two months, it appears those could have been true all along. Netflix holds all the cards when it goes to actually giving Marvel TV the green light to move forward with a PUNISHER spin-off series, but it would be a terrible thing to not see Bernthal get more time in the spotlight headlining his own show.

The buzz surrounding the Punisher in DAREDEVIL Season 2 is definitely real. So real he is all this writer can think about after completing the season last night. It's a performance that is done so perfectly, is just makes sense for Netflix and Marvel to keep riding his wave (of blood.)
