BATMAN V. SUPERMAN Scores 7th Largest Domestic Opening With $166 Million and 4th Biggest Worldwide at $420M

UPDATE 3/28 11:46 a.m. ET: The actuals are in from The Hollywood Reporter and BvS took in $166M domestic which makes it the seventh largest domestic opening of all-time, not the sixth, and it grabbed $254M overseas for a worldwide total of $420M.

Fans of DC Comics said "SCREW YOU!" to all of the negative critics as they went to go see Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman together for the first time in cinema history and judge it for themselves. BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE scored the sixth seventh biggest opening weekend of all-time, domestically, with an estimated $170 million $166 million.

This is not only a pre-summer record breaker for a domestic opening weekend, but this the biggest opening Warner Bros. has ever seen for a movie with Batman in it. BATMAN V. SUPERMAN beat THE DARK KNIGHT RISES' previous opening of $160M, from back in 2012.

Warner Bros. executives have to be pleased with these opening numbers as the studio projected a highly conservative estimate of $120M. However, per BoxOfficeGuru, the movie saw a big drop on Saturday from Friday's huge $82M day to the tune of an approximate 38% drop-off on Saturday taking in just under $51M.

Overseas, BATMAN V. SUPERMAN took in an estimated $254 million.

Worldwide, it took in a whopping total of $424 $420 million which is a heroic amount compared to the $300-$350M prediction prior to release. This is the fourth biggest opening of all-time worldwide only behind STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS ($529M), JURASSIC WORLD ($524M) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part II ($483M). This opening is also larger than Marvel Studios' best showing from THE AVENGERS which brought in $392M worldwide in 2012. [Editor Note: Reader @joemessin brought it to the attention of The Daily SuperHero that THE AVENGERS did not open in an many countries overseas as BvS did for its opening weekend. Thanks for the heads up!]

Ben Affleck, director Zack Snyder and the rest of the cast, crew and everyone involved in this movie has to be feeling really good this morning.

But now the question looms... Will BATMAN V. SUPERMAN have the box office staying power to endure the next month and make as much as possible before rival Marvel Studios unleashes CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR on May 6?
