Kurt Russell Confirms Call to be in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 But Needs to Watch the First One Still

Actor Kurt Russell has confirmed a recent report stating he was in contention for a role in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2. The report originated from the Hollywood trade site TheWrap whose sources claimed Russell was up for the role of Star-Lord's dad.

In an interview with Happy Sad Confused Podcast (via CBM), Russell said he has gotten a phone call from writer/director James Gunn about an undisclosed role.

“I literally got a phone call two days ago about this. I’ve never seen Guardians of the Galaxy. I don’t know anything about it. I’m one of the four idiots that’s never seen it. Many times I’ve heard ‘That’s a really fun movie, a really good movie [with] great characters.’ I don’t know it. So, I didn’t realize that the man [who called, James Gunn,] had written and directed it. So we talked to each other on the phone and I just had to be honest and say, ‘Thank you for considering me, I have to read it, and I have to watch the movie because I can’t bring anything for you. I’ve got nothing to offer here.’ So, I’m amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do.”

So there you go. Russell is (or was) being considered for a role in the Guardians sequel but he has to do some due diligence on his part by seeing the first film as well as needing to read the sequel's script after that. Regarding if Russell is indeed being looked at for the role of Star-Lord's father, this still remains to be seen.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 begins filming in Atlanta in early 2016 and releases on May 5, 2017.
