AGENT CARTER: Previewing Season 2

AGENT CARTER is coming back! After what was initially supposed to be a seven week event, AGENT CARTER soon gained a cult following after its premiere last January. Many Marvel fans were elated about the renewal of the series last spring. This is unsurprising considering that Peggy Carter has been a fan favorite in the Marvel Universe ever since her debut in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER.

The finale ended on a somber and mysterious note as Peggy destroyed the last of Captain America’s blood, Dottie Underwood is most likely to still be alive (this is Marvel, guys... nobody dies just once), and Angie Martinelli moved in with Peggy into Howard Stark’s mansion. However, the finale gave viewers only a glimpse into what may come for Season 2.

Recent information has been released about the next season of AGENT CARTER. A new poster gives us the setting. Our favorite butler and kickass agent are headed to the West Coast to Los Angeles. Why though, exactly?

A behind the scenes photo released by Marvel shows that Daniel Sousa has been promoted to chief. After finally earning the respect and admiration of her misogynistic male coworkers, Sousa will send Peggy on an official mission to SoCal with Edwin Jarvis, her trusty sidekick. Perhaps this professional trip will turn personal as the producers have dropped hints about Peggy becoming romantically involved after moving on from Steve Rogers. A new scientist, Jason Wilkes, will join the cast played by Reggie Austin. He is rumoured to be Peggy’s love interest. Will we soon discover he is her future husband or will it be someone we’ve already met?

Howard Stark will be joining the Season 2 cast as well. I'm sure Howard will flourish in Hollywood. It wouldn’t be surprising if Howard becomes involved with another villain this season. We know that he gets around and he did name drop Rosalind Russell, a 1940’s movie star, last season.

We also have news on this season’s villain. The Agents of Primetime panel at New York Comic Con revealed the new villain will be Whitney Frost, better known as Madam Masque, played by Wynn Everett. Many comic book fans will remember her as Iron Man’s sometimes nemesis, sometimes love interest. One of the many Marvel couples who could’ve used a few counseling sessions. Anyhow, the character is going to be re-imagined for the series as she will be working double-duty as a villain and actress in Hollywood. It could be interesting to see Peggy or Edwin Jarvis sneaking on a movie set.

We also know a new actor has joined the season in a recurring role. Kurtwood Smith will be playing Vernon Masters, a war veteran. It wouldn’t be too far fetched to see him joining the SSR. In addition to the new characters, most of our favorite cast will be back: James D’arcy (Edwin Jarvis), Enver Gjokaj (Agent Sousa),and Dominic Cooper (Howard Stark) will all return with Hayley Atwell in the titular role, as well as, Lyndsy Fonseca (Angie Martinelli), Dottie Underwood (Bridget Regan) and Chad Michael Murray (Jack Thompson). It wouldn’t be surprising to see if Angie tags along to try her hand at acting on the silver screen.

Season 2 is scheduled to premiere during the AGENTS OF SHIELD break this spring — on ABC on January 5 with a two hour premiere — with a full 10 episodes. Which ever way this season goes, fans are excited to see where Season 2 will take our favorite secret agent.
