After AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, the Team Roster Will Continue to Change; As it's Done in the Comics For Decades

This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who is familiar with the Avengers rosters of the comic book universe. It's always evolving and changing and the original roster in the 60's comics changed after four issues when Captain America was added and in issue 16 a new roster lineup was revealed, too.

So it makes sense that the movie adaptation of the Avengers lineup would evolve as well. And it already has begun as seen in the final moments of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON (see above image). Not only will this happen due to actors' Marvel Studios contracts expiring — although those actors can be resigned as Robert Downey Jr. has already done — but Marvel's hero catalog is so vast there are plenty of other heroes who will see their place on the Avengers movie roster. Cough, cough Spider-Man, cough.

Anyway, in a Q&A session with several Hollywood media outlets to promote the upcoming Blu Ray release of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, Marvel Studios executive Jeremy Latcham spoke about the future of the Avengers' roster (via Collider).

“I think it definitely is an end to some version of the team that we’ve come to know as The Avengers. Who knows exactly what is going to happen yet in that film, but I think this version of that team—and I think we start to hint at it at the end of Age of Ultron—will be evolving.
“One of the things we love from the comics is that the roster is always changing and new people are coming onto the team, and you can pick up an Avengers book 10 years later and you don’t recognize the people on the cover. But the ideas and ideals and things that make the Avengers the Avengers still exist, and I think that’s part of what this culmination will be. We’re seeing this version of the team doing this thing to save the universe, the galaxy, however you want to put it, and we’ll kind of see where that goes. It’s not the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but I think that it is the end of part of it for sure. We’re still trying to sort out that point.”

Some actors have expressed their desire to stick with Marvel Studios beyond their current contract agreement, most recently Chris Evans has verbally committed to this, and while some heroes may stick around in Phase 4 (and beyond) not all will. This means new heroes like Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel and Black Panther will take their respective place on the Avengers' roster in Phase 4.
