STAR WARS LAND to Begin Construction at Disneyland and Disney World in 2016

Last month at Disney's D23 Expo a 14-acre expansion was announced which will add Star Wars to both Disneyland and Disney World. No further information was provided about the expansion except a few piece of conceptual art and teases about planned rides like how you'll be able to pilot the Millennium Falcon (cue the squee noise here).

Disney COO Tom Saggs issued an update about the planned construction, via THR, who reported the following.

"He announced that construction of new lands based on Star Wars would start next year in both California and Florida, but still would not say when the attractions might actually open to the public. He called the initiatives the biggest 'single-theme' improvements at the parks in their history, reiterating that guests will be able to visit the bizarre cantina featured in the original film and fly Han Solo's Millennium Falcon."

No opening date or timeframe was announced or hinted at. With such a massive expansion plan, the new Star Wars Land probably won't be open for several years but hopefully sometime before STAR WARS EPISODE IX releases in 2019.
