FANTASTIC FOUR Director Josh Trank Defends Himself From All the Criticism

There's a lot of online hate being thrown at FANTASTIC FOUR director Josh Trank. The Daily SuperHero can somewhat empathize with Trank after recently receiving some hate on social media for its own work (and its FF review), but that pales in comparison to the onslaught happening toward Trank online and on social media right now.

Trank, meanwhile, defended his work although he did delete his defense post to his Twitter account (via ComicBook).

“A year ago I had a fantastic version of this. And it would’ve received great reviews. You’ll probably never see it. That’s reality though.”

Anyone who works really hard for a year-plus on a project will also defend his or her final results at the end of the day. It's human nature to defend yourself in critical moments of your life. We've all done it at one time or another. There is nothing wrong with Trank's statement except maybe that Fox didn't want the implication made here that things may have been changed (a lot?) by the studio during filming and/or post-production.

What happened in the second half of FANTASTIC FOUR, which is widely regarded to be the biggest issue with the movie, may never be disclosed but attacking Trank without knowing the full story of what went down behind the scenes is unnecessary. Maybe the studio stepped in and took over, maybe Trank was forced to make changes more than he was comfortable with from his original vision. Had Trank's vision of the movie made it to the big screen maybe it would have been praised but what's done is done so critics and fans will never know.

This is a human being who worked as hard as he could to make the best thing he could to the best of his abilities only as allowed by Fox, who has total control since it's their money. This is a story that will probably be unknown for the foreseeable future and perhaps never known at all.
