Before Anthony and Joe Russo sat in the director's chair(s) for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, they were widely known as very successful television producers and directors for Arrested Development and Community. In fact, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said one of the main reasons he hired them for The Winter Soldier was due to their two paintball episodes for Community.
Now, the Russo Bros. are Marvel Studios' Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 3 overlord directors — they are currently filming CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and then begin work as directors of both AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, PART I & II. So Community creator and showrunner Dan Harmon paid homage to the Russo Bros. in the latest episode. Harmon went back to the paintball-themed episode, previously directed by the Russos, and included a parody of their terrific elevator action scene from CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER.
