Mark Ruffalo Confirms why Marvel Hasn't Made a Solo HULK Film: Universal Studios Has Some of the Rights

Well, well, well. It's been a few years of saying this in posts (here and here). The answer to the question and the reason there was no solo INCREDIBLE HULK sequel has finally been confirmed.

Since 2013, The Daily SuperHero has been telling its fans and readers the reason Marvel Studios hasn't made another Hulk solo movie has been due to the fact Universal Studios owned his distribution rights while Disney/Marvel had made a side deal to use Hulk only in their ensemble films or in a supporting role without Universal being involved. Disney tried to acquire the distribution rights for solo Hulk films after they bought Marvel Entertainment and right around the time Disney acquired Phase 1 distribution rights from Paramount for Iron Man, Captain America and Thor. However, Universal balked at Disney when they tried to offer cash-money to buy the Hulk distribution rights.

Proof of all this came from Bruce Banner himself as Mark Ruffalo confirmed it, to Collider, during the AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON press event.

"As far as a Hulk movie, a standalone Hulk movie, Marvel doesn’t really have the rights to that yet. That’s still Universal’s property, so there’s that issue. That’s a big impediment to moving forward with that. Now I don’t think that’s insurmountable, by the way, but I don’t know where it’s going from here for me."

Many didn't believe The Daily SuperHero, but I get the last laugh now. And sorry for putting the ego on display in that last sentence but I deserve it after battling the disbelievers and haters on social media, the past few years.

This is, and has been, the reason there hasn't been another solo Hulk movie or even a Namor movie since Universal has the rights to him as well and it's a similar problem with Marvel trying to get Namor into a solo movie. Maybe Disney and Universal work out a deal or Universal finally sells the rights back to Disney, but until that happens there will be no solo Hulk movie — or Namor movie — for the foreseeable future and through Phase 3.

Hopefully Hulk can appear in more movies outside of just Avengers films because fans love the green rage monster and it's a disservice to them to not have another solo adventure.
