DOCTOR STRANGE Casting Rumor Has 3 Actors Targeted For the Role of the ANCIENT ONE

Several weeks ago Marvel's Ant-Man wrapped filming at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta. Next up in ATL will be Captain America: Civil War in April/May 2015. Shortly after the next Captain America begins filming, Marvel's Doctor Strange will allegedly begin filming in Summer 2015 at Pinewood in London.

Also, over the past weeks, Marvel Studios made it official that Doctor Strange will release in theaters on November 4, 2016 and that actor Benedict Cumberbatch will star in the leading role.

Now, Marvel may have their sights set on a group of actors they want in the role of the Ancient One, who is Strange's mentor and the former Sorcerer Supreme. Per the website Latino-Review, actors Morgan Freeman, Bill Nighy and Ken Watanabe are all targeted for the role.

Wantanabe is the obvious choice since he is Asian and the Ancient One is Asian in the comic book universe, however, sometimes you have to expect the unexpected with Marvel and they could change the race of the good Doctor's mentor. Yet, Marvel Studios is trying to be proactive in having a diverse cast for their films including more females and races to appeal to as large of a mainstream audience as possible. Because of this Watanabe is, again, the obvious choice for the role.

But Freeman is an interesting choice because he has such a tremendous screen presence along with that amazing voice. Imagine him saying things like, "By the Eye of Agamotto!" or "By the Wondrous Winds of Watoomb!" or "By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth!" His voice behind any of those comic book phrases could be... well... magical.
