Like it or Not, AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is Following a Similar Comic Book Universe Path of Change

If you don't want to know a specific, although minor, detail about Avengers: Age of Ultron that was said by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige in an interview with BuzzFeed, then stop reading now. You've been warned.

Comic book readers know the Avengers' roster, in the comic book universe, has changed what seems like hundreds of times in the decades since its creation. Going back to 1963, in Avengers issue No. 16, the team already had a lineup change.

In a feature column on BuzzFeed, Feige has confirmed that the Avengers team you've come to love on the big screen will be going through its own changes. Specifically, its roster changes by the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

"The Avengers films, ideally, in the grand plan are always big, giant linchpins. It’s like as it was in publishing, when each of the characters would go on their own adventures and then occasionally team up for a big, 12-issue mega-event. Then they would go back into their own comics, and be changed from whatever that event was. I envision the same thing occurring after this movie, because the [Avengers] roster is altered by the finale of this film.”

In the comic book universe, it took 16 issues to change the Avengers' roster. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it'll take the majority of two films. This is why Phase 3 is getting an introduction to Ant-Man who, in the comics, is a founding member of the Avengers and why Doctor Strange will be getting his own intro (albeit maybe not a full origin film) in Phase 3 as well.

The Avengers' roster is changing and that's a good thing because it means more heroes (and villains) are being newly introduced into the MCU.

Avengers: Age of Ultron releases in theaters on May 1, 2015.
