CAPTAIN AMERICA 3: HAWKEYE Was Going to be in Cap 2 But Was Written Out, Now There's "Rumblings" For Cap 3

A few weeks ago the writers of Captain America: The Winter Soldier revealed Hawkeye was initially in the film in early script drafts. Unfortunately, his role in the Captain America sequel did not develop as much as Black Widow's and he was completely written out of the script sometime before filming began.

It seems like Hawkeye could be written into Captain America 3. According to actor Jeremy Renner, via Collider.com, he said he's been hearing some buzz about having a role in the threequel.

"There are rumblings of Captain America 3. I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I’ve got to find the time, man (laughs). I’m trying to stay home and I can’t."

UPDATE: Captain America 3 directors Anthony and Joe Russo chimed in on the possibility of Hawkeye showing up in the threequel (via SuperHeroHype) but sadly issued a 'No Comment' response.

“Unfortunately we can’t (comment),” Anthony said, “It’s too specific to what the movie may be.”
Joe did chime in and teased, “There are certainly characters that Cap is close to or has a strong relationship with that would make sense appearing in his films. I think that’s all we can say about it.”

Since Cap 2 came out earlier this year in April, screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and directors Anthony and Joe Russo have been developing the story and script for the next Cap 3. With a release date set in May 2016, the script needs to be ready for filming which should begin sometime in spring/summer 2015.

Hawkeye really deserves to get a strong supporting role in a non-Avengers film since many of the other Marvel Cinematic Universe characters have had a lot more screen time than Hawkeye has had so far. Hopefully, Hawkeye can get more screen time and have a larger role in Captain America 3 but so much can change in the screenwriting process between now and spring/summer 2015 when Cap 3 should start filming.

Captain America 3 releases in theaters on May 6, 2016.
