AVENGERS 3 in May 2018? IRON MAN 4 in May 2019? It's a Solid Theory Right Now

The week before the 2014 Comic-Con International began, Marvel Studios revealed that they had secured five new untitled release dates. Then, on Preview Night of Comic-Con, Marvel stole secured another release date for an untitled movie on May 4, 2018.

That May 2018 date was previously held by The Amazing Spider-Man 4 but Sony switched up their Spider-Man franchise release schedule and the date opened up. Before the Sony changes, it was assumed by many that Marvel would release Avengers 3 in May 2019 but others thought 2019 was too long of a wait after Avengers: Age of Ultron hit theaters on May 2015.

According to studio president Kevin Feige, it seems like those other fans who thought it was too long of a wait may have been right. Feige spoke with Screen Rant about the possibility of Avengers 3 coming out on their new May 4, 2018 release date.

“We haven’t really talked about when we’ll see Avengers 3. I presume we’d like to stick to three years between Avengers movies like we did…Oh, No, it was two years, wasn’t it? What was it? Yeah, yeah. So it’d probably be three years about Avengers 2 and 3.”

Of course, Feige and his team have spoke about when they want Avengers 3 to come out because he's the one who said Marvel has a rough movie release outline all the way to 2028. Although, having Avengers 3 in 2018 makes sense to maximize the brand and its box office potential.

So this opens up the question of what will release in May 2019 now? Some theorists are saying it would be cool if Avengers 3 was a two-part movie with Part I coming in May 2018 and Part II coming out the following May. Highly plausible concept and no different than when Warner Bros. broke up the final Harry Potter film into a two-parter.

However, having an open May 2019 release date for Iron Man 4 would make just as much sense, if not more sense. Recently, Robert Downey Jr. seemed optimistic to return for another Iron Man film even though his current Marvel contract expires after Avengers 3. And May 2019 could be the perfect date for a Iron Man 4 if the actor is willing to renegotiate a return to another solo film.

(Of course there's some speculation by me in that last paragraph but nothing that isn't too far-fetched.)
