Sorry BLACK PANTHER Fans, AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Filming in South Africa is Not For Wakanda

Since last summer, it was rumored Avengers: Age of Ultron could be filming in South Africa and immediately fans assumed it would represent Wakanda and the possibility of the Black Panther to finally get his big screen introduction. Then, last month, it was confirmed writer/director Joss Whedon's sequel would indeed be filming in South Africa. Again, fans assumed Black Panther was coming.

Now, and fans will be sad, it is being confirmed that filming in Johannesburg will just represent Johannesburg in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Here's what SA Breaking News has just reported:

"'The great thing about this movie is that they are shooting Johannesburg as Johannesburg. Often you will find filmmakers will shoot in Johannesburg and portray the location as Los Angeles. This time around the first 10 minutes of the film will be of Johannesburg,' Gauteng Film Commission’s (GFC) Desmond Mthembu, told Eyewitness News."

This new report also clearly states that the film's stars will not be in South Africa for filming Tuesday night at "Albertina Sisulu streets in the city’s Central Business District."

Finally, and this is pure speculation, perhaps this is all a ruse to say that Wakanda is not a part of the sequel and it's being cleverly planted by Marvel Studios as such. Marvel is very good as misdirection when it comes to the production of their future films. Just sayin'.

Avengers: Age of Ultron releases in theaters on May 1, 2015.
