GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Officially Green Lit? Report Says Filming in Cleveland is Penciled in For Spring 2014

While Ghostbusters news has been hit-and-miss over the past few years, one thing has been certain and that is if Dan Aykroyd does not find a script he really likes, then it would never be made.

Rumors of spats with actor Bill Murray have flooded the Internet over the past year or two. As well as script rewrites saying the original cast would return and star in the threequel, but then it could be a complete reboot with the original cast simply "passing the torch" to a younger cast. Even as recently as a couple days ago, the website Schmoes Know reported that actors Jonah Hill and Emma Stone are rumored to be targeted for Ghostbusters 3.

UPDATE! Here's an updated post with more info from local sources around Cleveland: Exclusive: Is GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Green Lit and Filming in Cleveland? Multiple Sources Update Recent Report

Now, it seems like Sony Pictures is giving Ghostbusters 3 the green light as a new report from WKYC Channel 3 in Cleveland is saying a tentative filming start date of spring 2014 is penciled in for Ghostbusters 3 in Cleveland. This is the next blockbuster to come to Cleveland's ever-growing film community and scene following recent blockbusters filming in the city like Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2013) and The Avengers (2011).

WKYC writes: "More movie projects are on the way. One being the sequel to 'Ghostbusters' as Sony has penciled in spring 2014 date to start shooting the third installment here in Cleveland."

It may not be widely known but the Cleveland Film Commission has said the city can stand in for anything as long as there is no need for mountains or desert. And this would not be the first time Cleveland would stand in for New York as it has done so for Spider-Man 3 and The Avengers in recent years.

With director Ivan Reitman rumored to be attached to Ghostbusters 3—he did direct the first two films—filming in Cleveland makes sense since he was just in town shooting next spring's Cleveland Browns football movie Draft Day.

Stay tuned seeing as how The Daily SuperHero resides in Cleveland and will be closely monitoring this moving forward and has already reached out to the Cleveland Film Commission for any further information or response on this new report.
